Trainer-driver Clare MacDonald worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard Arabica to win the 2012 edition of the $7,500 Johnny Conroy Memorial Pace on Sunday afternoon at Truro Raceway.

MacDonald settled Arabica into the two-hole behind P H Bestman (Todd Trites) and followed along through fractions of :27.4, :57.3, and 1:26.3 before sprinting home to prevail in 1:56.2 by one and a quarter lengths. Favourite Panmunjom (Garry MacDonald), fresh off a win in the Jennie & Joe Chippin Memorial last weekend at Fredericton Raceway, rallied off Carnivore's (Terry Gallant) cover to finish second while P H Bestman settled for third.

The black gelding earned his seventh victory of the year and 13th lifetime, pushing his bankroll to nearly $80,000.

Arabica paid $13 to win as the 5-1 fourth choice in the field of eight.

The five-year-old son of Pro Bono Best is owned by the Hardy Mill Stable of Stratford, P.E.I.

Earlier on the card, Truro resident Lee Johnson won with his first starter as a trainer, Id Rather Be Lucky. Darren Crowe drove the six-year-old Righteous Hanover mare to a six length triumph in 2:02.
