Foxy Amee Leads Mohawk Grassroots Winners

Coming off a fourth place effort against Grand Circuit company in her last, Foxy Amee returned to Grassroots Series action with a victory in one of four $25,000 splits on Monday (Sept. 15) at Woodbine Mohawk Park, with two divisions each for three-year-old trotting and pacing fillies.

Foxy Amee was sent away as the 1-5 favourite with driver Doug McNair, getting away fourth on the first turn with Oceanview Rumours (Bob McClure) pressing to the lead through a :27 first quarter. Medley Seelster (Louis-Philippe Roy) moved to the top on the backstretch before Foxy Amee brushed to the lead at the half in :56.4 and opened up by three lengths at three-quarters in 1:25. Medley Seelster began to chip back away at the deficit in the stretch, but Foxy Amee held sway by a half-length in 1:54.1 while Lil Sweet (James MacDonald) finished third.

Trained by Paul MacDonnell, Foxy Amee has won four of nine on the year, good for earnings of $102,530. The daughter of Muscle Mass-Highland Foxytrotr is a seven-time winner for her career, banking $254,061 lifetime for owners Chris and Michael Storms.

The second division for trotting fillies was won by Ivy Lynn (James MacDonald, $5.90) in 1:55.3 for trainer Jean-Francois Maguire.

The fastest divisions for pacing fillies was won by Laydee Freight (Phil Hudon, $46.30) in 1:52. The Doug Hie trained daughter of Jimmy Freight-Exhilarated was paced the winner from second when Simply The Best (Roy) veered off the cones turning for home causing interference with multiple rivals and was disqualified back to eighth. 

The second split for pacing fillies was far less eventful for All My Wishes (Travis Cullen, $3.80) as she was a front-end winner in 1:52.1 for trainer Chantal Mitchell.
