Pupils from trainer Donald Beaton’s outfit won three of the seven races that went postward at Inverness Raceway on Sunday (Sept. 15), including the featured $1,150 Winners-Over Pace, which was captured by R Es Aiden ($3.20, Rodney Gillis), who uncorked a gate-to-wire performance and froze the clock in 1:58.3.
The feature had been carded as the final contest (Race 7) on the afternoon program. The five-horse field was scratched down to four, but the tilt later became a three-horse affair when Docs Ronhenry was pulled up halfway through due to broken equipment.
After having earned the point early, R Es Aiden chopped out the speed in :28.3, :58.2 and 1:29.1 over the ‘fast’ track. He pulled away with a :29.2 final quarter and posted a four-length victory over the Lewis MacDonell-driven Windmeredontmatter. Buttons and pilot Joseph Poirier finished third.
R Es Aiden is owned by Donald Beaton (of Port Hood, NS) and Adam Pond (Fort McMurray, AB).
Beaton’s other Sunday Inverness victories came when Your Raider Boy ($5.30) won in 1:59.4 and when Chase N Madi ($8.50) hit the wire first in 2:00.1. Gillis steered all of Beaton’s winners.
