Owner-trainer-driver T. Michael Clark cleared command with his six-year-old Sportswriter filly Barbies Belle and faced little challenge when strolling to a 1:58.1 victory in the $5,500 Preferred 4 Pace at Leamington Raceway on Sunday, Sept. 15.
Barbies Belle took the lead from post 4 while Oldfrienskentucky sat in the pocket. The pacesetter faced no challengers when setting a clip of :28.4, :59 and 1:28.4, widening her lead through the stretch to win by four-and-a-half lengths over Oldfriendskentucky. Woodmere Wyldstyle, tipping first over from fifth heading to the half, grabbed third.
Winning her fifth race from 20 starts this season and her 21st from 97 overall, Barbies Belle has earned $105,378. T. Michael Clark leases the $8.60 winner from owner-breeder Willis Clark.
Trainer George Robinson collected three winners on the 10-race card, all of which were driven by Garrett Rooney. Amazing Quest ($4.50) wired her competition to win by three lengths in 1:58.3, then Robinson won a race later as Keaton ($5.50) kicked around the field to win by four lengths in 2:00.3. Robinson’s final win on the day came when Brother Aidan ($10.40) popped pocket to win by a half length in 1:59.1.
