Southwind Avanti extended her winning streak to three in a row, and she did so in dominating fashion in Friday afternoon’s $25,000 Helen Smith at Freehold Raceway.
In rein to Jason Bartlett, Southwind Avanti was treated to a two-hole trip for the majority of the mile behind Hillarmbro. With fractions of :28.3, :58.1 and 1:27.2 in front of her, Southwind Avanti found clearance in the lane and stormed home in :28.4 to win by four lengths over Hillarmbro in 1:56.2. Romancing Rachel tagged along to finish third, with the final cheque going to Southwind Prius.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, the Anette Lorentzon-trained three-year-old daughter of Muscle Hill-Auvergne improved this year’s record to 6-1-1 from 10 trips to the track. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $96,168.
