Multiple winning tickets were purchased for Tuesday’s Jackpot Hi 5 wager at Mohawk Racetrack, and as a result the carryover has suddenly ballooned to $218,187.59 going into Thursday evening’s card of racing at the Campbellville oval.

Thorn In Your Side, who was sent off as the 3-1 favourite in Tuesday’s 10th race, prevailed over American Rock (5-1), Tendtowin (13-1), Company Man (5-1) and Reasonable Force (7-2). The winning combination of 2-8-7-10-1 returned $9,798.20 for a $1 ticket.

Tuesday’s card also featured a number of the OSS’ top three-year-old trotting colts and geldings in an $18,000 overnight event for Ontario sired three-year-olds.

Luck O The Irish, who was sent off as the 4-5 favourite in the eight-horse affair, got away second before brushing to the lead in the backstretch. Once he cleared to the top for driver Sylvain Filion it was game over for the others. The colt knifed his way through fractions of :56.4 and :56.3 before rocketing home in :28.2 to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Caulfield. Platoon Seelster was third.

Tom Durand trains the son of Holiday Road-Kavita for owner/breeder June Durand of Puslinch, ON. Together, the husband and wife duo has watched the sophomore compile a 4-4-2 record from 13 trips to the track this season. The five-time winner now boasts a bankroll that stands at $244,104.
