Two individuals were arrested last week after a theft attempt saw a stolen box truck and a Toyota make two laps of a harness racetrack before tearing down at least 110 feet of fencing.

WHIO Dayton News reported last week that John Zerkel, 54, and Donna Gibson, 47, were arrested this past Thursday (September 11) after having allegedly stolen a contractor’s truck at the soon-to-open Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway in Ohio.

The article goes on to state that the truck made two laps of the track in a botched getaway attempt. It is alleged that Zerkel was driving the truck and Gibson followed in her Toyota. Zerkel was apprehended in a bar across the street from the racino and Gibson was detained at a local golf course.

The report states that the racino would not release surveillance footage of the incident to the press, but that it is co-operating with local authorities.

A brief report by wdtn.com states that the track was damaged in the ordeal.

The gaming floor at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway opened on August 28. Simulcasting at the facility is currently available. The track is expected to kick off its inaugural meet of live harness racing on October 3.
