The familiar combination of driver Mario Baillargeon and trainer Ben Wallace teamed for the fastest win time of Mohawk Racetrack's Tuesday morning qualifying session. The surprising thing is that the time was produced by
a two-year-old.
The juvenile in question is Bettors Green, a bay colt by Bettors Delight which when on to capture Race 2 by three lengths.
After leaving from Post 7, Baillargeon and Bettors Green made the top before the :29.1 opening quarter. The pair yielded to Machal Jackson (driven by Luc Ouellette) along the backstretch and took a two-hole trip through the middle fractions (:58, 1:27).
When Baillargeon called for pace in the lane, the young colt responded. He kicked home with a 28-second final quarter and went on to stop the clock in 1:55.1.
The Tuesday morning mile was the first charted line for Bettors Green since making back-to-back breaks in New York Sire Stakes races at Yonkers Raceway.
There were seven qualifying dashes in total on the morning docket, the results of which can be viewed by clicking here.
