Leamington Raceway hosted a 10-race live card on Sunday (Sept. 13), and a $5,000 conditioned pacing event offered the most lucrative purse during the afternoon program at the half-mile course.
The dash in question was carded as Race 9, and a field of seven faced the starter, led by the public's even-money choice, Regal Mac, who lined up in Post 3 for driver Marc St. Louis Jr. and Tyler Nostadt.
Over a 'fast' track rated one second slow, Regal Mac sprinted out to an early lead and was first to the quarter in :28.4. The 10-year-old continued to do work on the point, as he cut the middle half (1:00, 1:29.3) before preparing for the final panel.
Regal Mac saw his lead increase in the final quarter and drew off on his foes to record an eight and a half-length win in 1:58.3.
Intrepid Lady (who was driven by Jonathan Hahn) had come first-up from fourth but had to settle for second, while For Kevins Sake (Lorne House) picked off horses in the final quarter to finish third.
Regal Mac, who is a gelded son of Stonebridge Regal, is owned by Blueshoe Investments, of Baltic, Ohio.
