After having been sent off as the public's odds-on choice, Intended Royalty went out and recorded a gate-to-wire win on Sunday (Sept. 13) in the featured $1,250 Winners Over Pace at Inverness Raceway. Redmond Doucet guided the Randy Copley trainee to a six and a half-length score in 1:56.4.
Intended Royalty started from the outside Post 5 and was first to the quarter (:29.1) and then led the field to the half in :57.3. The gelding was ahead by six lengths by the time he covered three quarters in 1:27.2. The bay came home with a :29.2 final panel to record his forty-second career victory.
Brookdale Buster rode the pocket throughout the mile and finished second for Andrew MacLean, while Twisted Frisco, who had raced fourth, got up to finish third, nearly nine lengths in arrears of the victor.
Randy Copley co-owns Intended Royalty, a nine-year-old son of No Pan Intended, along with Edward Copley.
