Gilles Barrieau acquired the lion’s share of the purse money as the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for trotters took the spotlight Thursday evening at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Mile Hill Willie teamed up with Barrieau to win the lone $8,900 two-year-old P.E.I. Colt Stakes trot division in 2:02.4 in a mild upset at 4-1 odds for owner Paul Morrison of Cardigan, P.E. The chestnut son of Armbro Barrister stalked the field from fifth on the rail as divisional leader Little Miss Winnie cut out the fractions for driver Kenny Arsenault. Little Miss Winnie was nailed for the win in the stretch drive but hung on for second while Getting Messi (Corey MacPherson) finished third.

In three-year-old P.E.I. Colt Stakes action, Barrieau visited the winner’s circle with Windmeredontuworry in a $6,200 division for trainer Terry Gallant of Summerside, who co-owned the son of Armbro Barrister with Eric Johnston of Summerside, P.E.I. Time of the mile was 1:59.3 for the defending Atlantic Triple Crown winner.

The clocking for Windmeredontuworry lowered his own track record by three-fifths of a second.

West River Cindy padded her bankroll in the other division to put her over $18,000 in seasonal earnings for driver Kenny MacDonald, trainer Clare MacDonald and owner Haley Shepherd of Stratford, P.E.I. The Armbro Barrister three-year-old was on top at every call for her win in 2:01.1.

MacPherson had three wins on the 12-dash program including Holy Molie Maggie in 2:01.1, Dusty Lane Jacob in 2:00.3 and Swingirl in 1:58.1.

Campbell visited the winner’s circle four times on the program to continue his grip over the Red Shores Charlottetown driver’s standings. The Winsloe driver won with Glasgow Gracie in a 2:01.4 maiden score, Scoot Out Of Here in 1:58.2, House Of Style in 2:01.4 and Malabrigo in 1:57.2.

Live racing continues Saturday at Red Shores Charlottetown with two programs at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. featuring the P.E.I. Colt Stakes for two and three-year-old pacers.
