Another Great Pick established a new track record for aged pacing stallions while scoring his first victory against Open pacers as the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit wrapped up its 2015 season on Sunday at Morris.
Last through the first half-mile, Another Great Pick circled a field of five and went on to win the $3,100 Open Handicap Pace by two and a half lengths in 2:02.1 over the 'good' track. The five-year-old son of Charms Shark was making his first Open start on the Manitoba fair circuit, climbing up to the top class off a Preferred win two weeks ago at Miami. Dean Rey drove the winner, who is owned by breeder Justin Rey and trainer Roland Rey, both of St. Claude, Manitoba. Another Great picked has now earned three wins, three seconds and two thirds in eight starts this season. Red Star Tiger and Hale Street finished second and third, respectively.
Sportsonthebeach set a track record for three-year-old pacing fillies during the card, defeating older rivals by seven lengths in 2:02.4. Don Howlett drove the Sportswriter filly for her new trainer Trevor Williams and co-owner Michael Williams of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
