Making his first start from the Richard Moreau stable and moving from the claiming to conditioning ranks, Illusionsdreams won the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap Trot on Wednesday night at Grand River Raceway.
Driven by three-time Wednesday winner Scott Coulter, Illusionsndreams got away fourth in the six-horse field and rallied three-wide past the third quarter mark around the duelling leaders Indiana Hall (Trevor Henry) and Canbec Fridolin (Anthony MacDonald). The six-year-old son of Kadabra overtook the top two in the stretch en route to the one and a quarter length victory in 1:56.3. Keystone Orion (Dave Boughton) came on for second over Canbec Fridolin and Indiana Hall.
Illusionsndreams, a former William Wellwood Memorial cheque-earner, is 12-for-26 this year with wins in five of his last six starts for four different trainers. He was claimed for $22,000 on Aug. 16 at Rideau Carleton Raceway by his current connections, Luc Loyer of Gatineau, Que. and Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, Que.
The favourite paid $5.30 to win.
