Sent off as the co-favourite from the rail, Sunshine Lou looked like a 1-9 lock in his Northside Downs debut with a seemingly easy score in the weekly winners over feature.
Walter Walker pointed the Inverness invader to the front ahead of his five rivals, and those rivals couldn't get to his wheel off that opening turn. Through fractions of :28, :57.4 and 1:26.4, Sunshine Lou opened up daylight as he pleased over the final three-eighths of the race. A five-length lead at the third station increased to nearly six at the wire, with the mile timed in 1:57. Hotlikewasabi (Richie Baryluk) closed for second with co-favourite Southwind Ricardo (Greg Sparling) a resolute third after an overland journey.
Raymond Mac Kinnon of Inverness, N.S. owns and trains Sunshine Lou (Sunshine Beach - Carte De Mode), now a four-time winner in 11 starts since coming east from Ontario earlier this year.
