Mach Dreamer nosed out Ok Commander to match his 1:49.1 mark and pull off a 14-1 upset in the $38,000 Preferred Pace amidst the stakes action at Mohawk Racetrack on Saturday night

.

With the inside post position, Major Hottie (Chris Christoforou) set up shop on the front end and put up a :26.4 opening quarter with Dalhousie Dave (Scott Zeron) following in the pocket, 3-5 favourite St Elmo Hero (Jody Jamieson) sitting third and Mach Dreamer (Rick Zeron) fourth.

As Major Hottie rolled past the half in :55.3, St Elmo Hero launched his attack and battled on top with the leader to three-quarters in 1:21.3.

Entering the stretch, St Elmo Hero put away Major Hottie while Dalhousie Dave fanned wide with Mach Dreamer and a hard-closing Ok Commander (Doug McNair), who trailed the six-horse field early on, further out. Mach Dreamer found the wire just in time to score the 1:49.1 victory over Ok Commander. St Elmo Hero finished two lengths behind in third.

Mach Dreamer paid $30.70 for the upset win. Murray Brethour trains the victor, who watched his seasonal earnings soar past the $100,000 mark and lifetime earnings over $600,000. The win was the four-year-old son of Mach Three’s third in 13 starts this year for the Scarff Legacy Stables of Halifax, N.S.
