Countess Stormont took home the title of Woodstock Raceway’s fastest aged trotting mare on Saturday afternoon thanks to a speedy performance

in the program’s eighth race.

The 1:57.3 winning time lowered the former record, set by Porsche Hall in 2007, by one-fifth of a second.

Driver Jonathan Drury put Post 3 starter Countess Stormont on the lead and the daughter of Kadabra-Lady Obitex cruised past panels of :28.1, :58.3 and 1:28.2 en route to the record-setting victory. Longshot Twin B Excalibur (Danny Johnson) finished one and a half lengths behind in second while favourite Mystical Starlight (Doug McNair) was four lengths back in third.

Countess Stormont paid $14.60 for the 6-1 upset.

This year’s Masters Series runner-up has put together a record of 2-4-5 in 16 starts to earn over $70,000 during her five-year-old campaign. A winner of 18 races lifetime, she has banked $354,434 overall for trainer Norm Jones and owner-breeder Stormont Meadows of Long Sault, ON.
