Scott McNiven trainee Ride Away Shark took the front early and endured a mile-long challenge to take the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Flamboro Downs.
Driver Travis Henry hustled Ride Away Shark to the top from post 3 while odds-on favourite Tables Big Secret secured the pocket. Thrillonthebeach pulled first over before a :28 first quarter and progressed towards the pacesetter approaching a :56.4 half. She then backtracked through the field nearing three-quarters in 1:25 while Tables Big Secret mounted a bid from the pocket. Ride Away Shark held her at bay through the lane to win by a half length in 1:53.3. Twenty Three Red took third.
A seven-year-old mare by Classic Card Shark, Ride Away Shark won her seventh race from 26 starts this season and her 30th from 171 overall, earning $374,943. Kimberley McNiven and Thomas Brodhurst owns the $14.30 winner.
Dazzling Rockette rallied from second over to take the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace in 1:53.4.
Make Mine Mocha took control from post one while Southwind Ion ducked into the pocket heading to a :27.4 first quarter. Filly Forty Seven, racing third, tipped first over moving to a :57 half while carrying Dazzling Rockette on cover. Make Mine Mocha maintained command passing three-quarters in 1:25 while Dazzling Rockette spun three wide circling the final turn. Dazzling Rockette dashed past Make Mine Mocha through the lane to win by three-quarter lengths while Southwind Ion held third.
Owned by trainer Ashleigh Hensley and driver Ed Hensley, Dazzling Rockette won her sixth race from 30 starts this season and her 34th from 187 overall, earning $358,025. The seven-year-old Rocknroll Hanover mare paid $7.70 to win.
