Right On Molly returns to Grand River Raceway on Friday evening looking for her fifth straight victory and trainer Tony O’Sullivan is optimistic that the two-year-old pacing lass can be successful in spite of drawing the outside Post 8 for the $130,000 Gold Final.
“The eight-hole is not ideal, but if Dougie (McNair) can work out some kind of a trip I think she’ll make a good account of herself,” says the Cambridge resident.
Last week’s Gold Elimination victory, clocked in a track record 1:54.2 with Guelph resident Doug McNair at the helm, was Right On Molly’s first start out of O’Sullivan’s barn.
The daughter of Stonebridge Regal-Right On posted her first three wins — a sweep of the July Gold Series at Rideau Carleton Raceway and a division of the July 1 Grassroots season opener at Mohawk Racetrack — for trainer Otis Hall.
Those three efforts caught the attention of Boca Raton, FL resident Eric Cherry and O’Sullivan was dispatched to have a closer look at the filly. The trainer liked what he saw and Cherry put the wheels in motion to purchase Right On Molly from Sauble Hill Farms of Tara and Nasussito Racing Inc. of Ayr.
“She’s a sweetheart,” says O’Sullivan of the newest addition to his string. “She’s a very small horse, but she has a big gait and a great attitude.”
Cherry, through his Let It Ride Stables Inc., partnered with Robert Cooper Stables LLC of Boca Raton, FL and J And T Silva Stables LLC of Long Beach, NY to acquire Right On Molly and the group earned a quick return with last week’s Gold Elimination success. The filly has two more Gold Series events on her calendar and currently sits atop the division point standings, which will determine the 10 starters in the season ending Super Final.
“She’s small, but she has high speed and she can carry it,” says O’Sullivan of the division leader.
“She has a big engine and a big heart,” he adds. “She’s small but mighty.”
McNair and Right On Molly will line up against seven contenders for the Gold Final title in Friday’s tenth race, including the other elimination winner, Kims Royal Day, who will make her bid for a third Gold Series victory from Post 6. The daughter of Royal Mattjesty and Kims Caper has earned two Gold Elimination trophies for the mantels of Stuart McIntosh of Essex and trainer Blake MacIntosh of Cambridge. Cambridge resident Billy Davis Jr. will steer Kims Royal Day.
Among the other hopefuls are Battle Of The Belles Elimination winners Its No Secret from Post 3 and Mary Celeste from Post 5. Guelph resident Anthony MacDonald will be aboard Its No Secret and Arthur resident Trevor Henry steers Mary Celeste.
Grand River Raceway sends its first race into the starter’s hands at 7:05 p.m. on Friday evening and the two-year-old pacing fillies will step into the spotlight in Race 10.
