Silver Eagle Wins Red Serge Sales Stake

Silver Eagle took the lead early on and cruised to a two length victory in the $35,000 Red Serge Sales Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings Saturday afternoon at Alberta Downs

.

Leaving from Post 2, the son of Brandons Cowboy-Allamerican Viking took control of the field around the first turn and cut out fractions of :28.3, :58.2 and 1:26.1 en route to victory in 1:53.3. Bachelor Pad (Gerry Hudon), fresh off a victory in the Alberta Marksman, advanced first over from fourth to follow two lengths behind while pocket-sitter Tap Room (Rod Hennessy) finished over five lengths back in third.

Silver Eagle paid $2.40 to win as part of the popular 1-5 entry. Lance Ward trains and co-owns the bay gelding, a winner of 13 races in 21 seasonal starts, for owners Joe Tinelli of St. Albert and the Shir Win Racing Stable of Edmonton, Alta. The winner of $135,081 in earnings this year also boasts victories in the Adios Pick, Alberta Plainsman and Brad Gunn.
