Driver Brett Beckwith and trainer Enrico Robinson both put up outstanding numbers during the Tuesday, Sept. 1 card at Plainridge Park, with Beckwith winning five races and Robinson winning four under rainy conditions
One of four scores for Robinson was the $34,722 Open Handicap Pace as T H Tyson tripped out early and finished strong late to win impressively.
T H Tyson, driven by Bruce Ranger, tucked in second behind Jackson Cooper (Nick Graffam), who sped through splits of :25.4 and :55 before Montana Gb (Mitchell Cushing) pulled first-over on the attack.
Montana Gb pushed up next to T H Tyson at three-quarters but was unable to reach the leader, and then started to fade in the turn. T H Tyson then made his move, tipping out as the race neared the stretch. When they straightened for home, T H Tyson paced rapidly and opened up a 2-3/4-length gap at the line to win in a career-best 1:49.3. Jackson Cooper held second over Soho Spectre A (Brett Beckwith).
T H Tyson ($15) is owned by Pollack Racing LLC and trained by Enrico Robinson. The five-year-old Captain Crunch-Future Headlines gelding has won 28 of 87 career outings and is five-for-24 this season.
Bruce Ranger also drove Blood Moon A (1:51.4, $7.60) to victory for Robinson, and the trainer combined with the other top performer of the day, Beckwith, for victories with Lochlan Hanover (1:51, $7.20) and Its In The Stars (1:51.1, $2.80). Robinson ran his win total to 136 this season, by far his best career tally.
In addition to his two for Robinson, Beckwith won with Stayoutofmylane, Blue Bobby Sox (1:55, $5.80) and Ss Superstar (1:51.4, $6). Stayoutofmylane won one of two $20,833 divisions of the Romper Room for Massachusetts-bred two-year-old pacers who are eligible to the $3.2 million USD (est) Massachusetts Breeders Stakes. The Stay Hungry-Gold Orchid N filly went to the front and led at every station on the way to victory by 6-1/4 lengths in a lifetime mark of 1:55.3 for trainer George Ducharme. Stayoutofmylane, who is owned and was bred by George Ducharme Stable LLC, Jim Winske and Dr. Megan Moschgat, paid $5.20 for a $2 wager. Beckwith, the 2024 Dan Patch Rising Star Award winner, is 331-for-1,492 this year.
In the $34,722 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace, Royally Hot continued her strong season with her sixth win of the year in 26 starts.
Royally Hot got away seventh for Mike Oosting as a host of horses left, resulting in Sweet Hayley Jane A (Ron Cushing) parking Soft Shot (Beckwith), who was battling for the lead through fractions of :26.1 and :54 over the sloppy track. As the field moved onto the backstretch, an active outer-flow developed with Royally Hot fourth-over. Sweet Hayley Jane A was getting the edge on Soft Shot as they passed three-quarters in 1:21.4, while Royally Hot launched three-deep. Royally Hot took the lead from Sweet Hayley Jane A in the turn, cleared at the top of the stretch and paced away by three lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:50. Intothemysticmoon (Drew Monti) took second, followed by a closing Acushla Machree N (Mitchell Cushing)
Royally Hot ($4.40) is owned by Tim Tetrick LLC and trained by Alison Hynes. The win was the 11th lifetime in 49 tries for the four-year-old daughter of Bettors Wish-Mcsauna.
The first Romper Room split was won by Atreides (Drew Monti), who sat second behind Chase News Network (Brett Beckwith) from the half to the top of the stretch, where he tipped off-cover and closed to win by a length in a lifetime-best 1:54.3 for trainer Cory Stratton. The son of Stay Hungry-Lady Killer, owned by Scott McKenzie and Stratton Stable Inc., returned $6.80 for the win.
Racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Thursday at 2 p.m.
