Driver Mario Rivest steered Talbotcreek Armani to an upset victory in an $8,500 second leg division of Sudbury Downs' Young Guns Pacing Series that was rescheduled after last weekend's card was cut short due to poor weather conditions.
Favourite No Shirt No Shoes (Mike MacNeill) led the Young Guns field through fractions of :28.4, :58.2 and 1:26.3 before 13-1 longshot Talbotcreek Armani pulled the pocket and edged by for a 1:56.4 victory. Dbs Rosco (Paul MacLean), the longest shot on the board at odds of 22-1, came on for second while No Shirt No Shoes settled for third, both less than a length behind the winner. John Pentland trains the homebred sophomore son of Dragon Again, who earned his first win in 18 seasonal starts, for Natalie Pentland of Dorchester, Ont.
The win completed a sweep of the second leg of the series for Rivest as his own trainee Ardemore also posted a 46-1 upset with a 2:03.4 score over a muddy track rated four seconds off in the other round two division held last weekend.
Deuces And Jacks inherited his second straight victory in Sunday's $6,000 Preferred 2 Pace after Daddy Warbucks (Gerry Belanger) edged by the pacesetter at the wire, but was then placed third for causing interference. The winning time was 1:55.3. Local trainer/driver Paul MacLean co-owns the nine-year-old with Glenview Livestock Ltd. of Guelph-Eramosa, Ont. Spartacus Jim (Justin Turcotte) was third-placed-second.
Windsong Experanza romped to a 1:58.1 triumph in the $4,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3, scoring for the third time in the last four weeks. David Dowling was in the sulky for local trainer Mike Lamoureux and co-owner Marc Belisle of Val Caron, Ont. Carly Hollywood (Gerry Belanger) and Galloping Glorydee (Paul MacLean) finished second and third.
