Daddy Mac, Outofthefryingpan and Mystical Starlight shared the spotlight at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday night after winning their respective Preferred assignments

.

Trevor Henry sent Daddy Mac ($12.90) gate-to-wire to win in the $11,000 Preferred 2 Pace. The six-year-old son of Camluck-Sanfrancine held off a quick-closing Secret Weapon (Doug McNair) for the half-length victory in 1:55 with One More Drink (Simon Allard) finishing three-quarters of a length behind after a long first over journey.

Daddy Mac notched his fourth win in 18 starts this year pushing his earnings to $41,150 for trainer Travis Alexander and the Fiddlers Creek Stables L of West Bloomfield, Michigan.

In the $9,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace, pocket-sitter Outofthefryingpan ($14.60) shot up the rail to win in 1:55 flat by half a length over the pacesetter Stonebridge Celest (Nick Steward). The time of the mile equaled her career mark, which she took just over a week ago at Flamboro Downs. Favourite Topaz Seelster (Simon Allard) finished three-quarters of a length behind in third.

Anthony Haughan worked out the winning trip, which was Outofthefryingpan’s fourth in 13 starts this year. Haughan and trainer Meg Crone share ownership of the four-year-old No Pan Intended-Ma Belle Hall mare, who has banked to $23,265 so far this season.

Mystical Starlight ($2.80) went gate-to-wire turning back a challenge from the eventual third place finisher, Countess Stormont (Jonathan Drury), past the half-mile mark to win the $9,000 Preferred 3 Trot in 1:56.1. Twin B Rawley (Gord McKnight) went three-wide at the third quarter mark and rallied from the backfield to finish second, three and a half lengths behind the winner.

Darren McCall trains Mystical Starlight, a four-year-old Credit Winner-Miss Lovely mare owned by Glen Hobin and Ross Bradley of Stittsville, ON. The win was her sixth in 27 outings this year and pushed her earnings to $81,130.

In other action, Pook K ($6.50), driven by Henry, cruised to a four length score in 1:58.2 in his 10th race assignment and lowered Stonebridge Spirit’s track record for three-year-old pacing colts by three-fifths of a second. The time of the mile was just two-fifths of a second off the overall record for male sophomores, set by gelding Look Closer in early July. The son of Kadabra-Sisters Pleasurek is trained by Paul Taylor and owned by Robert Key of Leechburg, Pennsylvania.
