Blackhawk Zette and driver Ridge Warren won the $20,139 Open Trot at Tioga Downs on Saturday, Aug. 8.
Warren worked out a perfect pocket trip for Blackhawk Zette and made the winning move heading to the final turn. The odds-on favourite overtook the front-striding mare, Enola (Mike Merton), after panels of :28, :56.4 and 1:24 for the 1-1/2-length victory in a career-best 1:52.4. Stormont Divide (Jeff Gregory) finished third.
Blackhawk Zette is a five-year-old son of Cantab Hall out of Zette Starlett. He is trained by Robert Baggitt Jr. and owned by Florida's JL Sandowsky. The win was his third of the season in 13 starts and his 18th career victory, pushing his earnings to $595,369.
He paid $2.32 to win following top three finishes in his last two Open appearances at Tioga.
