
The compact card of harness racing on Saturday, Aug. 9 at The Track on 2 featured a first for trainer Chris Currie.
That first came in the afternoon's third race, with Currie trainee and lessee Master Of Liberty ($6.10; pictured above) sprinting home to win, providing the conditioner with his first career training tally.
Driver Kelly Hoerdt sat third with Master Of Liberty as Therealgoods (Dave Kelly) carved out fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:26.3. Once the field hit the head of the lane, Mike Hennessy popped the pocket with A Bettor Moment and then Hoerdt fanned off his helmet into the three path. Master Of Liberty paced powerfully and freely through the wire to best A Bettor Moment by two-plus lengths in 1:56.4. Therealgoods saved show.
Currie, a 31-year-old currently residing in Red Deer, Alta., obtained his training license at the start of June. He picked up his first career training victory in his 15th attempt.
