Got Sexy Scars ($9.00) took her time and reached in the final yards of the featured $7,100 Ontario Prospect Series event for two-year-old pacing fillies on Sunday afternoon's (Aug. 9) season-opening card at Leamington Raceway.
Got Sexy Scars and driver Garrett Rooney landed in fourth on the first turn before inheriting the second spot when pacesetter Lets Roar (Marc St. Louis) broke and affected Reinspired and Dreamfair Fantasy just beyond a :29.4 quarter. While the two inconvenienced fillies dropped out of contention, Lets Roar reset and maintained her lead through middle splits of 1:01.4 and 1:31, drawing seven lengths clear of Got Sexy Scars into the final turn.
The daughter of Sportswriter and Jordans Jewell had the last word, though, chasing down Lets Roar in the stretch and collaring her by a neck in 2:02.3. Runner-up Lets Roar was disqualified to sixth on account of the interference she caused while on a break, thus elevating Needingoffthegrid to second and Actions Delight to third.
Richard Moreau took over the training duties of Bruno Lepage homebred Got Sexy Scars, who was winless in five starts at Rideau Carleton before shipping west.
In the sub-featured $5,500 Preferred 4 Pace, Sir Galahad ($5.20) turned aside the first-over challenge of Tuition Money en route to a 1:57.4 score, his third win in as many starts for trainer-driver Isaac Waxman.
Leamington Raceway will offer harness racing on Sunday afternoons through Oct. 25 inclusive, as well as a special Labour Day program on Monday, Sept. 7.
