Savor The Memory Prevails In Preferred

Savor The Memory gave his connections a moment to savor on Saturday night at Hiawatha Horse Park when he prevailed in the $10,000 Preferred 2 Pace

The veteran gelding took aim for the top spot after the :27 opening quarter under the guidance of Don Rankin, Jr. Savor The Memory claimed the lead from Jet Fueled (Nick Steward) before the half in :56.2 and turned back the first-over challenger, Must Be Matt (Danny Johnson), by three-quarters in 1:25. Heading into the stretch, the 11-year-old son of Camluck-Save The Memories fought off third-place finisher J L Tiger (David Wall) and runner-up Jet Fueled for the win by a head in 1:54.4.

For Savor The Moment, the victory was his fifth of the season in 23 outings. Rankin also trains and owns the bay with John MacNeil and Viberta MacNeil of Brighton, Michigan. The 61-time career winner lifted his earnings to $645,876.

In the fourth race $7,500 Billings Trot featuring amateur drivers, Mitchell Walker guided his five-year-old gelding Rush N Supreme to a 2:00 triumph for trainer Terence Tomlin.
