Windsun Revenge was downright nasty in Tuesday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Mohawk Racetrack for the tandem of driver Rick Zeron and co-owner/trainer Jeff Durham.
The six-year-old son of Kadabra-Oaklea Polly shaved one-fifth of a second off his own national season’s record with his 1:51.2 performance in this week’s top trotting class at the Campbellville, Ont. oval.
Windsun Revenge took an early two-hole trip behind Il Sogno Dream, who carved out the opening quarter in :27.1. Zeron right-lined Windsun Revenge in the backstretch, and in a matter of strides the speedster grabbed the lead. He posted middle panels of :55.1 and 1:22.3 before kicking home in :28.4. He drew clear to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Dia Monde, with third prize going to Il Sogno Dream.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite in the six-horse affair, Windsun Revenge improved his 2017 record to 4-0-1 from eight starts with the win. The 19-time winner, who races for Durham and co-owner/breeder Robert Van Camp, now boasts career earnings of $443,573.
