After settling for the runner-up spot to Dunmore Alpha in the last three Open Trots, Saulsbrook Balance finally found himself in the winner’s circle on Saturday night at Charlottetown Driving Park
.
With Dunmore Alpha making an early break in the $1,400 feature, Saulsbrook Balance and driver Willie Murphy took command of the field from Post 4 and led the way through panels of :29.1, :59.3 and 1:30.2 before pulling away by six and a half lengths for the victory in a career-best 2:01.
Kung Pao Chic (Gary Chappell) finish second off a two-hole trip and Demasiado Tequila (Ivan Jamieson) rounded out the top three.
Cynthia MacDonald trains and owns the four-year-old bay gelding with Tanya MacKinnon of Souris, P.E.I. For Saulsbrook Balance, it was his third win of the season in 19 starts. The son of Nikes Image-Animated Lady, who has won 19 times in his career, now sports a bankroll totaling $58,772.
