The first leg of the MHHI Claiming Series for $3,500 claimers kicked off on Saturday at Killarney with Omemme and driver Philip Griesbrecht winning the first division

Giving Giesbrecht his third win on the card, Omemme completed the mile and a half contest in 3:08.1 after settling for a pocket trip behind Pampered (Ryan Grundy). The 10-year-old gelding prevailed by three-quarters of a length over the first-over challenger, Lady Comic (Darryl Mason), while Fiddlin Philly (Dallas McGee) came on for third.
Omemme, trained by Chris Brown for C K Williamson of Brandon, MB, won for the second time this year in eight outings. The son of Ragtime-Easy Coaster notched his 12th lifetime score and pushed his earnings to over $20,000.
The second $1,550 division of the first leg is set for Sunday at Killarney.
