Chapizzy and Seveallisto, a pair of daughters of Chapter Seven owned by Purple Haze Stables, scored victories in their respective New York Sire Stakes splits for two-year-old filly trotters on Friday, Aug. 7 at MGM Yonkers Raceway.
Driven by Matt Kakaley in the first $102,958 division with just four fillies, Chapizzy led the way through fractions of 30, 1:00.3 and 1:30, then used a 29-second final quarter to hold off pocket-sitter Anabella (Lauren Tritton) by a nose in a 1:59 mile. The 1-2 favourite, French Pastry (Tyler Miller), was third after she broke behind the gate and then couldn't threaten after she caught up and tried a first-over move on the way to three-quarters.
Trained by George Ducharme, Chapizzy, who paid $9.84 to win as the 7-2 second choice, broke her maiden in her third attempt. She was atop a $31.98 exacta and trifecta wagering was not offered. The filly out of Mizzy Brenda K was a $211,268 yearling from the 2025 Standardbred Horse Sale.
Kakaley went for the Sire Stakes sweep with 4-5 choice Secret Lover in the other $104,930 section and was on top at the :28.4 quarter, :59.1 half and 1:28.1 three-quarters. However, driver Leon Bailey wheeled Seveallisto out of the two-hole on the last turn and went by Secret Lover in the lane on the way to a half-length victory in 1:58. Wavy Xavie (Jeff Gregory) checked in third six lengths behind in the field of five with two early breakers.
The Jessica Okusko-trained Seveallisto, a $72,222 Lexington Selected Sale yearling out of Callisto Dream, now has a summary of 3-0-1 from four outings, including another NYSS win in her mid-July career debut at Batavia Downs. Seveallisto returned $22.82 to win as the 10-1 fourth choice and keyed a $63.74 exacta and a $120.62 trifecta.
Kakaley did sweep the two $28,169 New York Excelsior Series events for the rookie trotting fillies winning with Seven Thirds (2:02.1) for trainer Lucas Wallin and Solar Queen (1:58.3) for trainer Rob Harmon.
Yonkers is currently operating on a Monday/Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday live racing schedule with post time at 6:45 p.m. except on Saturday when it is 3:30 p.m. The oval will also have a Wednesday program next week on Aug. 12.
