Redland Misspretty Sharp In Charlottetown Feature

Redland Misspretty paced to a new lifetime mark in the conditioned feature for fillies and mares on Thursday, Aug. 7 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Redland Misspretty ($11.10) led at every call for driver Paul Langille in the $3,650 event, putting up :28.1, :56.1, and 1:25 panels en route to a 1-1/2-length victory in 1:53.3. Talldarklatte (Gilles Barrieau) closed for second ahead of Tribal Dancer (MacPherson) as part of a $486.40 triactor. 

The winning mare, a daughter of Source Of Pride-Woodmere Nora, has won three of 12 seasonal outings under the guidance of trainer Kyle Williams. The five-year-old Redland Misspretty is now 13-for-62 lifetime and has earned $60,200 for owners Brian MacGregor of Bedford, N.S., Rebecca Blaisdell of Inverness, P.E.I., and Howard Anderson of Trenton, N.S.

Hatchling ($17.50) sat second in the Gary Smith Memorial, the first race of the night, behind pacesetter Cant Catch Pepper (Barrieau), then collared that rival in the stretch and drew off to win by two lengths in 1:57.1. Saulsbrook Desi (MacPherson) was five further lengths back in third. Marc Campbell supplied the winning steer behind Hatchling for trainer Landon Campbell and owners Michael Goldberg of Toronto, Ont. and Shirley Symes of Springhill, N.S. 

Supreme Rockette ($5.20) won the fourth-race Drew Power Memorial Trot in a 1:58.2 mile from the Mike McGuigan stable for owner Jamie Whalen of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. Barrieau was in the race bike as the three-year-old trotting filly defeated second-place finished Curadh (Ryan Desroche) by 3-1/4 lengths with Oceanview Daisy (Myles Heffernan Sr.) third.

Sagali ($6.40), in line to MacPherson, captured the fifth-race Enid Morrison Memorial with a 1:57 clocking for trainer Phil Kelly and owner The Sagali Six Stable of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Skip Across (Jason Hughes), a quarter-length behind, secured second over Ubettimagoodone (Jaycob Sweet).

Havinfuninthesun ($2.50) proved best in the Benevolent Irish Society 200th Anniversary Pace in Race 6. Myles Hefffernan Sr. was in the bike behind the Thane Arsenault trainee, who stopped the clock in 1:58 for owners Thane and Jack Arsenault of Charlottetown, Barry MacLeod of Cardigan, P.E.I., and Deborah Wilson of Elmsdale, N.S. Heatherspet (MacPherson) went up the passing lane but had to settle for second by a length with Smilin In Heaven (Gary Chappell) third.

The Doane Grant Thornton Pace in Race 8 went to Woodmere Lizzie ($51.20) in a massive upset for driver MacPherson, trainer David O’Brien and owners Jack MacGillivray of Charlottetown and Jackie Cooper of Stratford, P.E.I. Obsessed With Lou (Marc Campbell) finished second after getting nosed out for the win as Islebetu Islebeatu (David Dowling) completed the $403.30 triactor ticket. The time of the mile was 1:56 .

In Race 9, Havarti ($13.20) and trainer-driver Langille bested Psili Ammos (Kenny Arsenault) by a quarter-length in 1:56.2 in the Keith Duke MacCallum Memorial. Favourite Shake N Blake (Dowling) was third. Chantel Langille of Montague, P.E.I. owns the winning mare.

MacPherson tripled on the evening as a driver.

Live racing continues Friday evening with an 11-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m., with the official opening of Old Home Week 2025.
