Jack Boswall reached up at the line after a taxing first-over trip to capture the Winners Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday, Aug. 6 for his first career open-class victory.

Jack Boswall took a seat in fourth for Lewis MacDonell as rail starter Talk Some Smack (Danny Gillis) pocketed the firing Whats Up Doc (Redmond Doucet) while pacing a :29.2 first quarter. Jack Boswall rolled off the inside on the second turn and attacked Talk Some Smack through a :57.4 half and 1:26.4 three-quarters. They raced abreast around the homeward bend, with Talk Some Smack straightening for home with a slight edge. Jack Boswall fought on, and he got by Talk Some Smack in the final meters to triumph in the $2,000 feature by a neck in 1:55.4. Whats Up Doc came home third.

The winning gelding improved to four-for-10 in 2025. Trainer Keith MacDonell shares ownership of the four-year-old with Mark MacDonell of Port Hood, N.S. and Blenise Young of Long Point, N.S. Jack Boswall, a son of Tobago Cays-Someshoresomewhere, has recorded 12 career wins and $61,603 in earnings in 35 appearances. He paid $4.70 to win.

In addition to piloting the feature winner, Lewis MacDonell trained and drove three more horses to victory on the eight-race program. He sent Free Proof ($5.20) to a 2:01.2 front-end win in the third race, won with Zaidans Luck ($11.50) off a second-over trip in 2:00.3 in the fifth race, and completed the training triple with Southfield Sandy ($16.40) in the seventh race in 1:58.1.

Lewis MacDonell of Port Hood has earned seven training wins from 28 starts this year. He is four tallies away from equalling his previous best season on record of 11 wins, set in 2000. He is having an even stronger year in the sulky with 10 victories in 31 attempts, a win rate of 32.3 per cent.
