Unabating continued his dominance in the top $6,650 Winners Over Handicap trotting class at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (August 7) while using new tactics to keep his foes on their toes.
Taken to the back of the pack off the gate the last two weeks before circling the field, driver Guy Gagnon opted to leave this time from the outermost post seven with the eight-year-old Broadway Hall gelding. Unabating crossed to command and carved out fractions of :29, :59 and 1:28.2 en route to the 1:57 triumph. The win was the trotter's third in a row and sixth out of his last seven starts for trainer Gerard Demers and owner Catheline Pelletier. The 1-2 favourite paid $3.10 to win. Caroluzzo followed two lengths behind in the pocket with Heres The Magic completing the top-three finish order.
Mr Massimo and driver Brett MacDonald doubled up in the Winners Over Pace as they journeyed first over to score in 1:52.4 for trainer/owner Gary McDonald. The 10-year-old Astreos gelding collared pacesetter Viper Select at the head of the stretch and drew two and a half lengths clear before hitting the wire. He paid $3.20 to win. Zingers Laugh finished third.
