Rifleman ($11.80) and driver Aaron Byron won the $10,500 featured pace on Sunday, Aug. 6 at Tioga Downs.
Favourite Orlando Blue A (Marcus Miller) set the pace through fractions of :28 and :57.1 before Rifleman took his shot going first-over heading down the backstretch. Orlando Blue A reached three-quarters first in 1:25 and battled with Rifleman all the way down the stretch while Vulcan Star N (Tyler Miller) made a late move going three-wide. Rifleman got by in deep stretch and won in 1:52.3 by a neck. Vulcan Star N was second but was disqualified for interference. Orlando Blue A received second money and Western Beachboy (Ridge Warren) was awarded third.
Rifleman is a five-year-old gelding by Betting Line. He is owned by Patrick Gregory and trained by Mike Watson. The win was his sixth this season from 27 starts and counted as his 14th career victory.
