Driver Mark Williams reached a career milestone on Saturday (August 6) at Hiawatha Horse Park as he earned his 5,000th victory with Cards That Count in the evening's second race.

Williams reached the milestone in his first drive of the night as the favoured eight-year-old pacing mare Cards That Count ($4.20) rallied off the cover of River Rising to win by four lengths in 1:56.2. Make Some Memories (Tyler Borth) finished second off a pocket trip while River Rising (Alex Lilley) finished third after wearing down pacesetter Island Blue (Lorne House) into the stretch.

Track announcer Roger Huston called Williams' 5,000th career win as he was in town for the 10-race program.

Peter Core trains the winning Cams Card Shark mare, who is owned by Donald and Heather McGregor.

Cottam, Ontario resident Williams, 58, has driven horses to over $22 million in purse earnings during his driving career in which he has recorded eight million-dollar seasons.

He later closed out the Saturday night program with his 5,001st win aboard six-year-old pacer Casimir Megastar ($10.90) for trainer Peter Hamilton and owner Megan Meekison.
