The longest shot in the field at 22-1, Tequila Talkin sustained a first-over bid that carried him to the upset in Monday’s $18,000 Open 1 Handicap Trot at The Meadows. Tony Hall collected six wins on the 13-race card.
When Tequila Talkin moved from fourth after the leader Barn Girl, it seemed only a matter of time before the venerable mare put him away. But the 4-year-old Cantab Hall-Margarita Nights gelding not only edged past Barn Girl late for Jim Pantaleano, but he also held off the rallying Try Try Again by a nose in 1:54.3. Barn Girl saved show.
Richard Perfido trains Tequila Talkin, who raised his lifetime bankroll to $112,852, for Thomas Mattingly.
Hall delivered a pair of victories for trainer Cory Kreiser and one each for Sarah Andrews, Rich Gillock, Bruce Riegle and Tim Twaddle.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Tuesday, when the program features a $5,000 total-pool guarantee in the Pick 4 (races 3-6) and a $1,920.88 carryover in the Pick 5 (races 2-6). First post is 1:05 p.m.
