Sweet Hedge romped in the $32,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace Friday evening at Mohawk Racetrack with a track record equaling performance

.

The Shawn Robinson trainee matched the track record for pacing mares with a 1:49.1 effort. The brown mare also took a new lifetime mark in the process.

With driver Billy Davis Jr. in the bike, Sweet Hedge went gate-to-wire, carving out fractions of :26, :53.3 and 1:21.3. The five-year-old daughter of The Panderosa-Ali Badali scored by four and three-quarter lengths over Naughtytiltheend (Sylvain Filion). Pancleefandarpels (Randy Waples) finished third.

The victory was just as sweet for Davis Jr. as he notched his 500th career driving victory.

Sweet Hedge joins A Ps Money Maker (10/08/10) and Laughandbehappy (07/16/11) in the record books.

She paid $5.60 to win as the bettor’s choice. Ian Fromowitz of Richmond Hill, Ont. and Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, Que. share ownership of the 20-time career winner, who has banked $226,527 lifetime.
