Trainer Ake Svanstedt piled on to his Hambo weekend stakes haul with two-year-old trotting colt Happy Jack B scoring a maiden-breaking victory in the $147,638 leg of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) at Tioga Downs on Sunday, Aug. 4.
Making his fourth career start and following a pair of runner-up finishes in NYSS competition, Happy Jack B (Tyler Buter) went straight to the front and carved out fractions of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:25.4 en route to the three-length victory in 1:54.2. The winner's entrymate, Gangsta Talk (Svanstedt), advanced first-over down the backstetch but flattened out to finish third behind pocket-sitter Variegated (Braxten Boyd), who was racing for purse only. The 1-5 favoured winning entry paid $2.40 to win and $2.10 to place.
Happy Jack B is a colt by Chapter Seven out of the multiple NYSS-winning mare Exotic Form. A $110,000 yearling purchase from the Lexington Selected Sale, he is owned by B Nasstrom Holding Inc., Wolfgang A Stable Inc., and Joe Sbrocco And Jaf Racing.
