Trained and driven by Paul MacKenzie, Steel Reserve scored his 34th career win in 2:02.2 by two lengths, with Azucar and Als Warrior finishing second and third in the $5,000 second leg division. The 12-year-old Credit Winner gelding is co-owned by MacKenzie and David Sheehan.
The other division went the way of series newcomer Toscano Girl, who defeated MacKenzie's other opening leg winner and odds-on favourite Built To Last by 2-1/2 lengths in 2:03.1. J Harris drove the even-money second choice, a five-year-old Southwind Toscano mare with 14 career wins, for trainer Katelyn Graham, co-owner with Cheryl Cherry.
Clinton Raceway hosted Harness The Hope day on Sunday, raising funds to benefit cancer support programs, awareness and research within Canada. Music To My Gears won a $4,600 pace named for Harness The Hope after a battle with Modern Writer to prevail by a neck in 1:57.3. Todd Ratchford drove the popular winner, a 12-year-old pacer by Rocknroll Hanover owned by trainer Ken Middleton, Keith Middleton, Jeffrey Seibel and James Grant.
