Denying Plainridge Racecourse slot machines means 160 jobs being slashed at Plainridge Racecourse, and that has owner Gary Piontkowski up in arms
with Gov. Deval Patrick.
Gov. Patrick claimed that the jobs created by racinos do not outweigh the social costs of slot machines.
“The governor obviously doesn’t think that the jobs or expansion at the racetracks are worthwhile,” said Piontkowski in today’s edition of the Boston Herald. “What’s the difference between a slot machine at a racetrack and a casino that he supports? What about the Lottery that offers 42 scratch tickets hanging behind the cash register or five people playing Keno? It’s so disingenuous to talk about the social costs.”
