Inverness Raceway will have a special guest driver on Wednesday when J.R. Plante arrives in town for a brief holiday.

Plante, whose wife hails from Moncton, NB, will drive five horses on the card. The career winner of 834 races and purse earnings that are quickly closing in on $5 million, is reported to be heading to this year’s Gold Cup & Saucer in Charlottetown, PE. He finished fourth with Mach It Paid in last year’s edition.

Inverness Raceway will welcome Paul MacDonell, the 2008 O’Brien Award winner as Canada’s Driver of the Year, to the half-mile oval on August 12. MacDonell’s parents are from Cape Breton, NS, and the career winner of 4,561 races and purses in excess of $93 million is still regarded as a native son.
