Whiskey Lou and driver Ridge Warren had an easy time of it in the $23,288 Open Trot on a picture perfect Corn-Tastic Sunday afternoon, Aug. 31 at Tioga Downs.
Being sent away as the 1-4 post time favourite helped to make Warren's job as easy as point and click. He pointed the mare Whiskey Lou away from the gate then clicked off smooth fractions of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:24.4 on the way to a 1-3/4-length victory in 1:53.4. The ultra consistent Purple Lord (Jim Pantaleano) tracked in the two-hole and looked like a sure thing to be second until Chuckthemillionair (Kyle Dibenedetto) snapped him right at the light for place.
Trained by Warren's dad Todd for Missouri owner Randy Wilt, the four-year-old homebred mare by Lous Legacy out of Whisk Hanover won for the 21st time in only 34 career starts as her earnings climbed over $350,000.
She paid $2.70 to win as the odds-on favourite.
Tioga Downs will host a Labour Day matinee card on Monday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
