Trotters have a reputation of turning hair grey, and Ritson certainly appeared to be that type of trotter after his 0-for-12 starts to the season for trainer Shawn Steacy.

The last couple of weeks, however, won’t have the trotter’s trainer reaching for the Grecian Formula anytime soon.

Steacy watched the four-year-old son of Cantab Hall-Sheenas Shadow stroll to a second consecutive victory during Tuesday’s 10-race card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

In rein to driver Bob McClure, Ritson was third and parked at the quarter pole which was carved out in :27.4 by Comeonover Hanover.  McClure marched on with Ritson, however, and the tandem eventually brushed their way to the lead in the backstretch.

Once in charge of the tempo, Ritson rolled the field through middle fractions of :56.1 and 1:26.1.  After that third quarter breather, the 1-2 choice fired home in :28.4 to win by 5-1/2 lengths over Cupid Hanover in 1:55.  Taking home third prize in the $16,000 conditioned event was Arrakis.

Mark Steacy, Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc, Dale Larson and Stephen Downey share ownership on the seven-time winner who lifted his lifetime earnings to $195,834 with the victory.
