Euchred rolled on the front and held firm to the finish to take the $1,700 Winners-Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Wednesday night (Aug. 31).
Driver Redmond Doucet dashed the 10-year-old Shadow Play gelding to the top approaching a :29.1 first quarter and hustled toward a :57.3 half to keep his competition in behind. But as he slowed the pace to three-quarters in 1:27.3, Euchred faced a challenge from Rockemsockem Scott that persisted around the final turn with pocket-sitter Eastcoast Invader waiting for room. Euchred fought the duo off in the lane to win by a half length in 1:57.1 while Eastcoast Invader and Rockemsockem Scott finished second in a dead heat.
Kayla Habicht Walker owns Euchred, a 74-time winner in 219 tries and earner of $155,920. Walter Walker trains the gelding, who paid $2.90 to win.
