Odds-on favourite Trillions Hanover ventured uncovered from last of the quintet to eventually down pacesetter Bestseller Hanover and win the $122,224 Lady Maud Pace on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Yonkers Raceway.
Bestseller Hanover hustled to the lead from the outside as the rest of the field lined into post-position order moving to a :27.3 opening quarter. Driver George Brennan angled Trillions Hanover wide from fifth moving into the stretch first time and loomed to within a length of the lead past a :57.1 half.
Trillions Hanover drew closer to Bestseller Hanover up the backstretch, matching strides with the leader as the field accelerated to three-quarters in 1:24.4. Bestseller Hanover saved ground to the inside but could not fend Trillions Hanover once the field straightened for the finish, with the favourite hitting the finish in 1:53.1. Jk American Beauty split horses from a pocket trip to take second while Bestseller Hanover held third.
Conditioned by Tom Fanning for owners VIP Internet Stable LLC, Falcon Racing LLC and Paul Lang, Trillions Hanover won her third race from 12 starts this season and her seventh from 19 overall, earning $192,080. The daughter of Somebeachsomewhere returned $2.80 to win.
