Schooner took the $2,500 first leg of the Inverness Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a track record equalling performance at Inverness Raceway in rein to Alex MacQuarrie.
Trained and owned by Anthony Beaton, the six-year-old son of American Ideal matched the 1:56 record for aged pacing stallions, which was originally set by Mitchs Ceilidh in 2002. (The all-age record of 1:54.1 still stands and is held by gelding Formal Affair.)
Bonnys Mac fought off Salute through fractions of :29.1, :58.3 and 1:28 before Schooner kicked home from the pocket to steal the spotlight. He won by four lengths with favourite Junebugs Baby rallying from the backfield for second. Bonnys Mac finished third ahead of Salute.
Schooner has now earned back-to-back wins at Inverness and sports a seasonal record reading 7-7-2 in 21 starts.
