The winning streak is now three in a row and counting for Icy Blue Scooter thanks to Monday’s come-from-behind score in the $8,100 Open Pace at Century Downs.
Trainer/driver/co-owner Nathan Sobey got away third with Icy Blue Scooter while Dontpokethedragon roared to the lead and chopped out panels of :26.4 and :55.2. Icy Blue Scooter attacked the leader from first over, and they sped past the three-quarter pole in 1:23.1. Icy Blue Scooter then used a :29.1 final frame to draw away to the win by 2-3/4 lengths over Retros Mystery in 1:52.2. Crackle N Burn was third.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, the eight-year-old son of Blue Burner-Jills Sooter improved his 2021 record to 4-2-2 from 10 starts for Sobey and partners Diane Bertrand and Robert Gilhespy.
The photo finished camera was needed to help declare a dead-heat for win between Lady Neigh Neigh and Moosette in the $8,100 Fillies & Mares Open
Tajmeallover supplied the field with fractions of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:25, but she lacked staying power in the late going. Lady Neigh Neigh came first-over on the way to the three-quarter pole while Moosette tracked cover from third-over. Lady Neigh Neigh kicked home in :28.4 while Moosette delivered a :28.1 closing panel, and the two of them couldn’t be separated at the wire in 1:54.1. Just a half-length in arrears was Glimpseofgoodness.
Lady Neigh Neigh, in rein to Kelly Hoerdt for trainer/co-owner Chris Lancaster, won for the second time this season. The career winner of $187,975 is co-owned by Christopher Lambie of Rockyview County, AB. The five-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Santinos Rosa is a 21-time winner to date.
Moosette, with Brandon Campbell at the lines for trainer Michael Campbell, improved her 2021 record to 7-5-0 from 16 starts with the win. The four-year-old daughter of Hes Watching-Legal Suspensory is a homebred owned by Shale Stables of Merritt, BC. She’s banked close to $60,000 to date.
