Driver Robert Shepherd and nine-year-old trotting gelding Hartmann fashioned a front-end victory in Friday night's $7,000 Preferred 3 at Grand River Raceway.

Hartmann went wire-to-wire in 1:59.3, matching his season's mark he took on July 11 in the same class at Grand River. Spartan Victory finished three-quarters of a length behind off a pocket trip while Chuckalo Caden followed two lengths back in third.

Hartmann paid $14.10 to win as the 6-1 fifth choice in the field of nine. Favourite Osprey Vision advanced first over to finish fourth.

Owned and trained by Isabelle Darveau of Cambridge, Ont., Hartmann has won three of his 20 starts this year while earning $16,638 in purses. His career record reads 22-30-22 in 166 races with a bankroll totalling $286,245.
