Taliesin and Callum captured their respective $8,500 divisions of the Blair Andrew Memorial Trot at the Charlottetown Driving Park. One was victorious by a comfortable margin, and the other had to sweat out a nail biter of a finish.

The first division of the co-ed event for two-year-olds went to Taliesin in a time of 2:06.4. Marc Campbell hustled the son of Northern Bailey-Southview Leah to the lead from Post 5 and the colt chopped out fractions of :31.1, 1:03.1 and 1:35.3 before kicking home in :31.1 to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Irish Lullaby. Dusty Lane Kasper was a five-dollar cab ride back in third.

Campbell trains the three-time winner for Buntainwood Farm of Brackley Beach, PE. It was a career-best clocking for the youngster who bumped his bankroll to $9,789 with the win. The rookie was a $6,000 purchase from last year’s Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale.

The second division turned out to be a nip-and-tuck battle to the finish, but when the dust settled it was Callum who prevailed by a head in 2:06.2 for trainer/driver Kenny Arsenault. The son of Northern Bailey enjoyed a ground-saving trip through fractions of :31.2, 1:03.1 and 1:35.4 before using a :30-second final quarter to haul down the front-stepping Money Show. Northern Dust was a distant third.

Sent off at odds of 8-1, Callum improved his record to 1-0-1 in six tries while pushing his earnings to $6,101 for owner/breeder Dr. George Irving of Irishtown, NB.
