DJ Mustang will be angling for top billing when the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series takes centre stage Tuesday (Aug. 4) evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County oval has a 14-dash presentation starting at 6 p.m., featuring a pair of $6,000 Grassroots divisions of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series in races nine and 12.
The first $6,000 Graduate Series Grassroots division, presented by Red Shores, for horses and geldings lines up in race nine with DJ Mustang the 5-2 morning line favourite from post four. Ken Murphy drives the Saul Lanigan trainee for co-owners Shane Esson, Brady Doyle and Peter Lanigan.
Redeyetoshanghai is the 3-1 second choice from post six with Adam Merner driving for trainer Wade Myers while Big Pond Cash has post five at 7-2 for driver Paul Langille and trainer Earl Watts. Governor’s Plate finalist The Tulsa King leaves from post seven with Corey MacPherson in the bike for trainer Mike McGuigan. Other entries include Income Approach (Keith Legge), Marc It Up (Jaycob Sweet) and Justa Country Boy (Jason Hughes).
In the other $6,000 P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series split, Howmac Exclusive is the 5-2 morning line favourite in the race 12 division for driver Corey MacPherson and trainer Leslie Waite. The Source Of Pride five-year-old leaves from post six after finishing second in 1:53.4 in his most recent.
Bettim Alive has post two with Jaycob Sweet in the seat while Mappo Oriley has post five for driver Ryan Desroche and trainer Taylor Doyle. Other starters are Good Omen (Langille), Chromed Up (Hughes), Woodmere Sinatra (David Dowling), Brookdale Layton (Murphy) and Starship Glyde (Merner).
The Tuesday program also features a number of memorial events.
Race 1 is the Cecil and Binie Stewart Memorial with Elm Grove Quest the 5-2 morning line choice for driver Dowling and trainer Alan Jones.
Windemere Britt is favoured in the race three Derek Enman Memorial from post 1 with Langille driving for trainer Kyle Williams fresh off a win in a $20,000 Gold division of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes.
The John Stewart Memorial lines up in race four with Louie The Great the 5-2 morning line favourite for MacPherson and trainer Les Waite after winning his most recent start in 1:54.
Gias Gem receives top billing in the race six Leon James Stewart Memorial with Neldie MacDonald in the race bike for trainer Toby MacDonald from post eight.
